Amanda Pomar is an illustrator and animator. Her work is concerned with the memory of the women of the people, the permanent contestation of social semantics, the popular celebration of magic and a fierce belief in transformation.

She recently directed the animated documentary O Nome da Vida (2024), awarded in Argentina, Italy and at Brazilian festivals. The film is available on Cultne.TV, Minas Play and SescTV.

She holds degrees in Arts and in Cinema from the Federal University of Juiz de Fora. In that Minas Gerais city — big-but-not-that-big, somewhat-but-not-so-little provincial and embarrassingly humid — dodging potholes and puddles, she completed eight years of animation work at Inhamis Creative Studio.

She is currently developing her next animation project, Feijoada Antropofágica, an optical poem playing with a certain modernist influence over a constructed national identity and its invented traditions, while airing ideas about food in Brazil, its cuisine and the geography of hunger.

Beyond her personal projects, Pomar teaches animation workshops, is part of the Garotas do Motion Institute and works as a senior animator under the steamy skies of Rio de Janeiro, where she finds a moment of contemplation in the pigment of paint on brushes.
